    General tips for getting the cheapest tickets

    • Book as early as possibly to have the most chance of getting the cheapest tickets.
    • Travelling in the evening is often cheaper.
    • For a weekend getaway, travel Sat-Sun-Mon instead of Fri-Sat-Sun.

      Seat reservations

      It is not mandatory to reserve a seat with ICE International. However, we advise you to do so. You will receive a confirmation of your seat reservation stating the carriage number and seat number.
      Do you have a train ticket between the Netherlands and Germany without a seat reservation? And want to make sure you can sit down? Then you can reserve a seat online.

      When booking a first class full-flex ticket, the seat reservation costs are included in the price of your ticket.

      ICE supplement for domestic travel

      For domestic travel with ICE International (Amsterdam - Arnhem) a supplement is required. Passengers, travelling with a valid NS subscription, can travel with ICE International in the Netherlands without a supplement.

      IICE International has 2 travel classes: 1st class and 2nd class. In 1st class, you will benefit from additional advantages, such as greater comfort and extra legroom

      Free access to the lounges

      If you have a 1st class ticket, you can enjoy a free drink at the NS International Lounge in Amsterdam, Schiphol Airport and Rotterdam. You also have access to the 1st class lounge of Deutsche Bahn at Berlin Hauptbahnhof, where you can enjoy a free snack and drink (with the exception of Supersparpreis Europe and Sparpreis Europe rate).

      Locating your carriage

      The carriage numbers are clearly displayed on the side of the train doors, on the balcony, and above the doors inside the carriage. Using the carriage number on your ticket, you can easily find your designated carriage. For additional assistance, you can also refer to the train composition board on the platform.

      Travel information

      Onboard, you can follow your journey using the screens in your carriage. These display the latest travel information, including ICE International stops, departure and arrival times for each station, and connecting trains. Additionally, be sure to listen to the onboard announcements.

      WiFi

      Free WiFi is available on all ICE trains, both in 1st and 2nd class. So you can continue working, e-mail or use social media on board.

      Catering

      During your journey with ICE International, everything has been taken care of. In the bar/bistro, you can order a simple meal, sandwiches, salads, hot snacks, or a drink. Payment can be made in cash or by credit card. For 1st class passengers, our staff also offers drinks and snacks at your seat on all ICE International trains.

      Luggage

      You are advised to only bring luggage that you can easily carry and that can be stored in the spaces provided. Smaller pieces of luggage can be placed in the luggage racks above the seats; for the larger pieces of luggage you may make use of the spaces between the seats that have been specifically designed for this purpose.

      Travellers with impaired mobility

      ICE International has two wheelchair spaces, and Intercity Berlin has four wheelchair spaces in 2nd class, with an adapted restroom/toilet nearby. Each wheelchair space includes a companion seat, which is always reserved. ICE International is equipped with a special lift to make boarding and alighting with a wheelchair easier. Wheelchairs can have a maximum length of 125 cm and a width of 70 cm, including space for footrests.

      Companions (including assistance dogs) of travelers with a companion pass can travel for free within the Netherlands on Intercity Berlin and ICE. Internationally, they may also travel for free, provided they have a valid travel ticket. This ticket can be obtained free of charge at the Ticket & Service desks at stations.

      Bringing pets on board

      Pets are allowed in ICE International and Intercity Berlin, but not in board bistro carriages.
      Small dogs/pets: Animals transported in a basket or cage travel free of charge.
      Large dogs: t is compulsory to leash and muzzle large dogs. You are also required to buy a ticket. Tickets for dogs cannot be bought online, but by phone at telephone number 030-2300023 (daily from 07.00 to 23.00) or at NS International counter at (medium) large NS stations.
      Guide dogs and assistance dogs. You will need a (free) ticket for these dogs. This is available free of charge at the counter in the Ticket & Service shops in the stations. An assistance dog is allowed in the bar carriage and does not need to wear a muzzle.
